Wine Wednesday - 2004 Godspeed Cabernet Sauvignon

This one has a fun background story associated with it. In the summer of 2012, my dad and I had an amazing father-son weekend before I took the leap into marriage. Both being wine folk I planned a weekend up in Napa and Sonoma, rafting the Russian River, eating good food and, of course, drinking good wine. While at dinner at Mustards Grill, we got a split of this big red from Godspeed Vineyards. We both very much enjoyed the wine (it paired great with the rabbit I had) and that was that.

Fast forward two months to the wedding and I had to come up with a gift for my dad. After some thought, I figured a bottle of this would be a great thing to share with my dad again. Well, it took some tracking down but I managed to find a few bottles at The Oxbow Cheese Merchant (they have a location in the Ferry Building as well) nestled in the amazing Oxbow Public Market.

All this sentiment just adds to the fact that this is a great cab and paired beautifully with food.

2004 Godspeed Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Veeder, Napa Valley

Deep purple color, not too heavy and moderate legs.

The nose gives hints of clove and pepper, followed with a light vanilla.

The flavor began with a bright fruit taste that diminished in an hour, leaving way for a light cedar taste. Very smooth texture.

Paired well with the pork chop and rabbit that was alongside the wine. Definitely drink now.
