Wine Wednesday - 2009 Old Vine Petite Sirah, Roux

See back to the first Wine Wednesday post to see the slightly more meaningful back story to why I picked Wednesdays for the wine review (and not just for the alliteration).

Onto this week's charmer: the 2009 Chairello Family Vineyards Old Vine Petite Sirah, Roux.

Look at that cork! Gorgeous. The picture doesn't do it justice. The aroma just opening the bottle was incredible. It took all of our resolve to let it open up and breathe...and even then we enjoyed it quickly.

The grapes come from a 95 year old head-pruned vines of Petite Sirah, with a field blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Black Muscat. The blurb has this wine aging for a decade but after 4 years it was incredible. That cork should help speak for itself with the deep stain achieved.

This is definitely a big red. The color is a deep purple and has pretty thick legs.

The aroma gives off a slew of black fruit berries: blackberries and boysenberry with a hint of menthol.

This wine was immediately drinkable upon opening, but developed beautifully over time. The wine was rich with the berry flavors and light on the tannins.

I would definitely pick up another bottle or two of the Old Vine Petite Sirah...the biggest problem would be holding onto it to see the development over time.

Cost: $65
